Ten True Regulars and Community Ops

Ten true regulars is a simple way to picture the first healthy core of a community. You are looking for a small group of people who know why they are there, return often, and begin to recognize and help one another.

The number is a practical target, not a platform rule. What matters is the habit of returning and contributing.

How it works

Start by deciding what “regular” means for your community. It might be joining a weekly conversation, attending a recurring coffee hour, sharing progress, or helping another member.

Keep the rhythm easy to understand. One dependable ritual is more welcoming than five events that nobody can remember. If the classroom or calendar feels crowded, remove what is not helping and add complexity back only when members need it.

Best practice

  • Welcome people personally while the group is small.
  • Host one low-friction ritual at the same time each week.
  • Notice who returns, helps, asks thoughtful questions, or brings others into the conversation.
  • Make the next useful action obvious.
  • Learn what keeps people coming back before you scale acquisition.

Pitfalls

  • Do not confuse a quiet member with an unimportant member.
  • Do not chase visible activity at the expense of trust.
  • Do not add more rituals simply because attendance is low.
  • Protect the room with clear moderation so regulars feel safe returning.
