Payments and Billing

Before you charge members, confirm the offer, the plan, the transaction fee, the refund policy, and the payout setup. These details affect both your margins and the promises you make on the checkout page.

Plan and fee picture

As of September 2026, Skool listed Hobby at $9 per month and Pro at $99 per month, with two months free on annual billing. Hobby used a 10% plus 30 cent transaction fee. Pro used 2.9% plus 30 cents up to $899, and 3.9% plus 30 cents above $900. Subscription prices were in US dollars, and transaction fees were not refundable.

Both plans were listed with unlimited members, courses, videos, live calls, a custom URL, and an affiliate program. Skool's pricing page shows affiliates under both plans, while its help centre says the member affiliate feature is only available on Pro. Skool's own sources disagree, so check the specific feature you need before you rely on plan parity. The pricing page describes a 14-day free trial. Skool's payment terms article puts the trial at 14 days and says subscription fees are not refunded for a full or partial billing period.

Set up a paid offer

  1. Decide whether you are selling a membership, a one-time course, or both.
  2. Use Skool Pricing to confirm the current plan names and prices.
  3. Use Transaction Fees to model the fee on your actual price.
  4. Compare plans with Hobby Versus Pro instead of choosing from the monthly fee alone.
  5. Write a plain refund policy before opening checkout.
  6. Complete the payout setup in Payouts before promising when money will arrive.
  7. Test the member journey from payment through access.
  8. Review any New Paid Member automation in Zapier Integration.

Best practice

  • Show the price, billing period, and refund terms clearly.
  • Model revenue after platform fees, refunds, and taxes rather than from gross sales alone.
  • Give billing responsibility to a named person and a backup.
  • Check the current treatment of boundary amounts before relying on a fee calculator.
  • Review annual billing copy carefully so “two months free” is not turned into an unverified dollar amount.

Pitfalls

  • Plan prices, fee bands, and trial controls can change.
  • Transaction fees may remain even when you refund a member.
  • Confirm tax, chargeback, invoice, and downgrade behavior on Skool's current help pages before you write detailed policy copy for members.
  • Payment automation does not replace access testing or a clear refund process.
  • Confirm billing manager permissions in the current product.
